Kayak anglers enjoy good pike fishing on Lough Derg

Dave O’Donovan was in touch to report on a great outing for some members of Irish Kayak Angling over the weekend. Read all about it below.

As soon as travel was allowed a few members of www.irishkayakangling.com headed to Lough Derg and what a day it was!

Success!

Niall, Dave, Denis, Andy, “Wolly” and Kevin were thrilled to get out on the water after many months of admiring their own kayaks and moving their fishing gear around their sheds!

A nice fish for Niall

Using different lures but coincidentally all in and around the same size the pike were on!

A perch for “Wolly”

Well over 20 pike were caught ranging from a pound or two all the way up to double figures and all caught in no more than 4 metres depth.  Great fun all round, between trolling and casting into spots “where a pike might be”.

The weather was glorious, maybe a bit too sunny a times and when the cloud cover came in the pike turned on!

Another pike for Dave

The mayfly were also out and about!

Dave was keen to mention Maureen in Palmerston Stores, Portumna, where all lures and tackle were purchased. Sounds like she put the lads on the right track.

Thanks for the report Dave!
