Angler Pauric McMahon reports on a welcome surprise while trout fishing on his local lake:
“I was out trout fishing my local club water in Monaghan on Sunday when I hooked into this pike. It took a self-tied pea head black Fritz lure on 6lbs leader, lucky it was just hooked in the scissors and after 30 mins I had it to the bank.”
“It was safely released after a quick weigh in at just over 35lbs.
I spent all winter after something like this on the fly but it just goes to show it’s all about luck.”
I would add perseverance to that Pauric, and it’s a worthy winner of our Catch of the Week.
