Angling report for week ended 30th May
River Lee: 5 salmon caught for the week on the Lee, best 12lbs on worm and fly. Water conditions perfect for fishing.
River Bandon: The Bandon fished very well last week with over 15 fish that we’ve heard of. The river was running high and clear for most of the week topped up by a few spates here and there. The quality of the fish was really good with those short deep fish that the Bandon is famous for. There were a good few fish caught and lost on the fly. Spinning and worms accounted for the rest. The river is still in great order at the time of writing and prospects are good for this week.
West Cork Rivers: 3 salmon reported for the Glengarriff River, best 11lbs by a local angler. 14 salmon report for the Ilen River, best 11lbs by a syndicate angler.
Munster Blackwater: Salmon angling improved early in the week with some large salmon recorded. The rain put a move on the fish in the lower catchment with a lot of fish movement reported between Fermoy and Mallow. As the week closed and the weather improved, the river was beginning to come back in perfect condition especially in the upper reaches and the coming week promises to be ideal conditions for fishing.
River Laune and Killarney Lakes: No reports on catches, there was reports of large fish seen running the Laune, but very little angling effort this week. There was a slight chop on Lough Leane on the 30th and five boats out trolling. Water levels are very high. Over the weekend there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, which must have been what kept anglers from fishing the Laune.
