01 May: With harsh conditions forecast I decided to make the most of fishing on Saturday.
Starting early in the morning I fished dry dropper. I had some lovely takes on the dry as well as my Olive Nymph usupended below it. I found the fish to be where I expected them; filling the seams and close to the head of the runs I fished. This weekend I found the trout to be smaller than past weeks. I didn’t have anything above 20-25cm, though all were very welcome.
The water temperatures had a noticeable effect on fishing over the last week. Hatches were larger and more frequent. Temperatures seem to peak between16:15 and 17:00 most days. In that 45 minute window fishing is quite good. There are plenty of fish rising on the flats, and the larger fish tend to show a little more also in this time frame.
With rain expected the river may rise slightly which will make it interesting for next weekend .
