Low water leads to lethargic salmon on the River Moy

MOY CATCHMENT ANGLING REPORT – Week ending 25/09/2022

RIVER MOY.

28 Salmon were recorded for the week, with 8 of these released. Water levels are extremely low for this time of year. Water levels recorded at Ballylahan Bridge (waterlevel.ie) on the Monday morning were 0.195m and rose sharply 4 days later to 0.570m and dropped off quickly to 0.234m by Sunday night.

Anglers are saying the salmon have totally switched off, and lost their aggression, probably because of water temperatures and low water levels.

Sincere sympathy to the Family of Josie Egan, Ballina, RIP, Chairperson of Ballina Salmon Anglers for over 20 years. Her sheer dedication and commitment to the River Moy was outstanding.

The Moy Fishery recorded 3 sea trout and 3 salmon for the week, all released.

Mount Falcon Fishery had 3 salmon for the week, 2 on fly and 1 on spinner, one of these released.

Knockmore Anglers Association, had 1 Salmon in the Wood pool for 4 lbs.

Coolcronan Fishery had 6 salmon for the week on bubble and fly.

Armstrong Fishery recorded 2 salmon caught on the bubble and fly.

Gannon’s Fishery recorded 1 salmon on bubble and fly

The Foxford Fishery reported 5 grilse, all caught on bubble and fly, 1 salmon released.

Foxford Salmon Anglers had 4 salmon in its Rinnaney Stretch.

East Mayo Anglers  had 3 salmon released and 1 sea-trout.
