With high water levels affecting venues across the island, the 2023 NCFFI Championships was staged for the first time on Upper Lough Erne in County Fermanagh. The anglers were positioned at Bellanaleck, Dolan’s Ring and Derrycharra, selected for ease of access to the fast flowing River Erne. Catches were good with quality skimmers, hybrids and bream making up for the undesirable weather with the rain persistent throughout.
Browning Ireland’s Tommy Dowd from Virginia, Co. Cavan took the top honour as the 2023 All Ireland Champion winning the match with 10.150kg. Just behind him was Munster CAC’s Ian Kelsey with 9.800kg for runner-up position. In third place was Co. Fermanagh Willie Wheeler with 8.900kg. Mary Tigwell, Drumshambo, Co. Leitrim picked up the Women’s Cup.
