Our canals are providing good sport to anglers this year and there are regular matches held at various venues along both the Royal Canal and Grand Canal, enabling competition anglers to test their angling skills against each other. Last week saw a couple of such competitions, and they shared a common theme at the top of the leaderboard…
The Edenderry Coarse Angling Club faced a windy Grand Canal last Saturday, and the water was on the low side and clear, making a difficult set of conditions for anglers to negotiate. As expected, fishing was tricky, but one angler made light of the tough conditions, as Dean Murray bagged a very respectable 17+ lb to win the match.

1. Dean Murray 17-03
