Osgur Grieve reports from Lough Conn…
Lough Conn has woken up again after the effects of the June heat, anglers are catching and seeing trout in most parts of the lough with Brackwansha and Castlehill fishing well in recent times. Anglers have reported seeing hatches of Mayfly on some days but the trout’s interest in them has varied from day to day.
Peter Roche fished on Wednesday 19th and released 2 trout on wetfly around Woodford Shallows.
Conn and Cullin Anglers held The Paddy MacDonald Cup trout competition last Sunday 23rd July. Fourteen anglers accounted for 6 trout over the 13 inch competition limit. There were plenty of undersized trout also released. A variety of wet and dry flies were successful on the day. First place went to Brendan Murphy with 3 trout for 1.49kgs, this was Brendan’s 2nd year in a row to win this cup. Second place went to Michael Rutledge with 1 trout for 0.5kg and 3rd place went to Padraic Traynor with 1 trout 0.5kg, 4th place Colm McAndrew with 1 trout just under 0.5kg.
