A few salmon reported from the Blackwater before the hot weather took hold

2380

It’s been another very quiet week on the Munster Blackwater. Last week’s rain saw a small rise on the 3rd of September but since then the bright, hot conditions have not been to the anglers advantage. Noel from the Blackwater Valley Fishery reports and has some good advice for anglers fishing at this time of year…

03 September:  With the season coming to a close it is nice to see some good fish been caught from our fishery. What wonderful colours this time of year. Remember if returning fish give them plenty of time to recover in the water before releasing them. Use the net if needed.

This September salmon was photographed in the water to maximise its chance of a strong recovery

Blackwater Salmon and Trout Fishery

Blackwater Salmon and Trout Fishery control a number of beats of the Munster Blackwater. The Ballyduff Bridge beat is almost a mile long offering a huge variety of water and is particularly suited to fly fishing. Upstream near the village of Ballyhooley (a few miles outside the town of Fermoy, Cork) we have two beats. The Ballincurrig Beat is one of the most beautiful locations along the river and has an excellent piece of fly water flowing into a deep pool. Just downstream on the opposite bank we have a short but productive beat, called Magners. This beat fishes also well in high water.
