Sad passing of long-time guest of Melview Fishing Lodge – an obituary from Kevin Lyons

Dave Butler 1945 - 2024 R.I.P

Martyn, Alan and Neil from Blackpool were over for their annual fishing trip to Ireland minus one this year. Dave Butler who was battling with a short illness sadly passed away during the other guys’ visit. Dave who has been fishing in Ireland since 1985 and never missed a year just loved Ireland and chatting and having a laugh with the locals. He kept records of every place they fished  and everyone’s weights for every single day since 1985, and trust me when I say that it makes great reading.

One of their last catches together

The three guys have been staying with me at Melview Fishing Lodge since 2006 and since year one it has felt like they are best friends coming over for a fishing trip rather than clients. Dave was just a happy go lucky fisherman with a heart of gold and would do anything for any one. I know he will be missed by his close friends and family including his fishing mates in the Prebond angling society based on the Fylde coast and on a personal note I and Melview Fishing Lodge will miss his chats and laughing and joking around the place, R.I.P Dave forever in our hearts and minds.
