The Irish Federation of Pike Anglers held their 2024 final at a venue in the Longford area last week. 52 anglers turned out for the yearly event, which sees the foremost pike anglers in the country compete for top honours and a place on the Irish team.

A fine 18lb pike

There were plenty of fish active on the day, as evidenced by the final tally of 496 caught. With nine bags in excess of 40lb, some anglers were kept pretty busy during the day. But as the numbers mounted up, it was some familiar faces that emerged at the top of the leaderboard, namely Mark, Jody & Alex Kiernan. It was a super-tight struggle for the top prize, with Jody’s 81lb, 9oz (25 fish) being just bettered by Mark’s 82lb, 1oz (26) fish. There was only a tiny jack between them…! Alex finished third with 59lb (17 fish).

The top 10 anglers on the day, who also qualify for the Irish team, were as follows:

1st Mark Kiernan 82Ib 01oz, 26 fish.
