Chris Barry of Go Fishing Ireland was in touch to let us know about some recent guiding trips…

Younger anglers have been catching some great pike in recent days. After the recent cold snap and frosty nights, water temperatures have dropped significantly to a chilly 6 degrees.

Jack Moran and his cousin Sam Byrne (both 16) from Dublin joined us for a pike fishing trip. The mission was to catch Jacks first pike. With very cold conditions settling over the lake, everybody struggled to stay warm. But the Boyne Valley pike soon turned up the temperature, and the lads had some great sport.   Not only did Jack catch his first pike, he also upgraded, with bigger fish coming through the day to top it off with a mighty fish of 111cms.  Only 10 minutes after we released Jack’s fish, cousin Sam struck into another beauty of 112cms. Two fantastic pike in a short feeding window. Congratulations to both.

Later in the week, Aaron Maguire (age 17) with his Mum Diana and Uncle Jan headed out in search of a new PB. Despite challenging conditions, the fish were feeding well and obliged with many strikes throughout the day.  During the afternoon, Aaron’s rod bent into a really powerful fish which broke the surface for a spectacular tail walk against the stunning backdrop of winter sunshine. A beautiful fish with perfect markings, it measured at 112cms. His Mum Diana and Uncle Jan also caught some lovely fish to 95cms. A great day on the water and congratulations to young Aaron on his prize catch. A fish to remember for years. We know his Grandad will be proud!
