Piscari-Fly Newsletter: River Nore Update, Father’s Day & Championships Galore

2228

The Piscari-Fly team are back with their latest newsletter with news of what’s going on around the country:

How’s the Fishing?

With a recent bit of rainfall, the Nore came up a couple of inches and the fishing had been good and steady during the day. Peter and Mark were out Sunday for a few hours, they had a good session. The best nymph for Peter was his Hare’s Ear Nymph tied on a Hanak RS hooks and Piscari Tungsten beads.

Mark was working some Pheasant Tails and bits and pieces and the boys picked up some good fish, actuallyt plenty of them and it was good fishing. However, it was cold and temperatures really have dropped, there was a slight breeze on the river and it made it not so typical June fishing. But the fishing was good.

Ricky and his dad Dick Croke were out on Sunday night and they were saying it was some of the best fishing they have had on the Nore in a few years. It was completely on fire, with fabulous quallity fish showing for the dries. So if you’re around about over the next wee while, call into us here for permits and recommendations on locations, get out there and enjoy some good fishing while its there. When we have this mixed weather and there is some water in the river the fishing is good. Great to hear that the river is fishing well.

A good friend of ours down in Cork was out testing some of our saltwater fly patterns and picked up this nice bass. Well done to Ollie, it’s a cracker of a fish on the fly. He picked it up on a Chartreuse Flatwing. Fab to see some nice fish being caught on the coast.

Recap of the Worlds Fly Fishing Championship

So in the end it turned out to be a good result for Team Ireland although we had some early unlucky draws which didn’t help their cause. But the boys finished strong and won the final day overall, which is not a very common thing for an Irish team. Great to see the boys competing at that level and showing the calibre of angler that we have here in Ireland can compete at that level. Everything has to click all the time at this level over the entire competition and the boys performed brilliantly. Great to see the boys finishing strong and getting up to a 10th place finish. So well done to Team Ireland and well done to all the medal winners and organisers for hosting the event.

Italy for the European Fly Fishing Championship

We would like to congratulate our very own Mark Driver on being ratified as the Captain of the Irish Team going to Italy in October. So both Peter and Mark will be away. Congratulations and best wishes to the rest of team. The line up is Mark Driver – Captain, Anglers – Peter Driver Kevin Oates, Jano Knazko, Enda, Derek Cagney.

The boys are planning a trip in August to do a recon on the area and get familiar with it, and the styles of rivers there. Then the championship take places in October on four river sessions and 1 lake.

Make sure you check out Piscari-Fly Club as Peter is about to start a whole “Road to Italy” series, where he will take the club members through every aspect of preparing for a championship, getting the gear together, tying the flies and just in general what he is expecting. So if you are a subscriber make sure you check that out. It will start this weekend coming, where Peter will be doing some stuff to get ready.
