Anglers on Lough Currane had better fishing last week, on the days when sun wasn’t entirely dominating the conditions. There was the first grilse of the season reported on Wednesday. UK Currane angler Mr. Martin Henderson caught the fish in the morning while conditions were still cool with decent cloud cover. He added a sea trout of about 1.5lb to his tally before the sun took over proceedings. Fishing on the lake was slack over the next couple of days but on there were 3 salmon caught on the Butlers Pool on Friday. There were another couple of salmon caught on Saturday. As Vincent Appleby put it:

Currane fly angler Mr. Colin Lynam, fishing with his Gillie, takes all the honours today with a cracking two Salmon 8 lbs and the other at 6 lbs, both caught on the fly, both sportingly returned to fight another day. As if that wasn’t enough to keep the Currane flag flying, Colin also struck gold again the fly with three fine Trout, likewise all released. You could say the lake was in a generous mood, and Colin made sure to cash in while the going was good.

To round out the week there were a couple more sea trout caught on Sunday.
