Owenea Fishery – 19th  to Sunday 30th Sept 2016.

The 12 days to the end of the season were very wet for the greater part and the river had some big floods on 21st (0.48m), 24th (0.72m!), 25th (0.32m), 26th (0.32m), 29th (0.28m) and the 30th (0.27m). In fact the river was too high to fish at stages and most of the best water levels occurred late in the day after an initial low level which meant visiting rod numbers on these days were low to non-existent.  Only 23 visiting rods were in attendance over the last 12 days of the season. We have 6 salmon recorded to the end of the season to date. On Thursday 22nd, Tommy Corr recorded a 4lb grilse caught spinning on beat 9. On Sunday 25th, Kevin O’Neill reported a 7lb salmon caught on a fly from beat 5 and Jim McLean accounted for a 2lb grilse caught and released on a spinner from beat 8. On the 26th, Neil Black reported a 6lb grilse caught and released on a fly from beat 5. On the 27th, Bill Murray logged two grilse weighing 6 & 2lb caught on a fly from beat 5 with the smaller of these being released again. On the 30th, Neil Black recorded a 5lb grilse caught and released on a fly from beat 5 and his young son Joe, caught a 4lb grilse, also on beat 5. And that was it. Another season over! Where do they go?
