Daryl Ewing of Sligoboatcharters has been hitting plenty of Spurs to specimen size of late. There have been so many of them that it’s been difficult to get through them to any other fish but when you are getting Spurs to that size it’s hardly the end of the world…

Anglers make little of lumpy day in Clare
Sean Maguire from Fishingadventures reports on a good day out in Clare. Weather was poor and conditions lumpy but he was lucky to have a group of experienced anglers aboard who managed to catch plenty of fish despite the conditions. Pollack were prominent in catches with fish to 4kg along with numbers of cod and gurnard.

Specimen Tope & Hounds abound in Wicklow
Charter angler Kit Dunne of Wicklow Boat Charters is still knocking out plenty of specimens.

Weather was a bit variable over the past few days and conditions got a bit lumpy at times but that didn’t prevent the big ones being caught including a PB Hound for Jessica McBride.

There were a couple of decent Huss thrown in for good measure.

Burst of sun puts bend in rods in Cork Harbour
Well known sea angler Jim Clohessy took advantage of a bit of recent sunshine to put a bend in the rods in Cork Harbour over the weekend. Mackerel were scarce so the lads had to rely on lures which, luckily, didn’t let them down.

The blue skies led to some nice fish being caught and also made for stunning photos.

Great grilse run on Delphi
David McEvoy has reported a very strong run of grilse into the Delphi system over the past few weeks, not doubt encouraged into the system by the heavy rain over the past month. They had 83 fish recorded for the month up to 13th July but with numbers varying wildly from day to day. See David’s full report here.
Good cod fishing for Dublin angler Niall
Dublin small boat angler Niall Hogan has been getting some pretty decent cod fishing in recent times.
Fishing in the Skerries area he has taken a few good fish with the best being a nice lump of 11lb taken on Tuesday night. Great to see cod of this size being caught in the Dublin area.

Cracking species fishing for Killibegs Mariners
Stefan Martin of Killibegs Mariners SAC reported on a couple of days species hunting off the north west coast:
Day one was on a private boat where the four anglers managed 21 species between them, which was just two shy of their record of 23.
Day two was onboard charter skipper Adrian Molloy’s boat. Adrian is best known as one of the top Bluefin Tuna skippers in Ireland but he was able to produce the goods for the smaller species too.
The lads caught fish all day long with treble hook ups of dabs, gurnards and whitings mixed in with plenty of cod, coalies, pollack, ray and some cracking turbot. There were 17 species to the boat in total with Cormac Burke getting the highest individual score of 14.
