Brian Stevens, Slaney River Trust reports on that salmon fishing is going well on the Slaney

The last week has seen fish caught from Kildavin to Enniscorthy bridge as the river as fined down after the flood and water temperate has started to rise. Anglers in the Kildavin area report that the first fish of the season was landed today but that very few fish are to be seen. Lower down the Enniscorthy stretch reported 3 fish caught and a number lost.

Three anglers had 2 fish on the same day this weekend Tiernan Sludds (Enniscorthy), David Dobbs (Clohamon),  and an unnamed angler on Clobeman who had a 14 and 15lber.

Time to change tactics?

As the river warms up and the levels drop it may be time to change over from big heavy weighted flies to smaller flies with floating or slow sinking  lines. The week started with big Willie Gunns doing the business and by Sunday size 6 yellow shrimps and the like were successful as showed by a very happy looking Paddy Syme who had 11lb sealiced fish.

Anglers are reminded that with the exception of the Enniscorthy anglers water below the old bridge where black flying Cs have been doing well, the river has a fly only rule which IFI are actively policing.
