Ghillie Vincent Appleby reports on the salmon and sea trout fishing in the past week on Lough Currane from his blog at http://wwwsalmonandseatroutphotos.blogspot.com/
25/6/14 Lough Currane was on the quiet side after yesterday’s action even though there were a few sea trout caught but nothing that would hit the news headlines. Wind was light SW and variable and overcast.
26/6/14 Its Mr. Phil Staniforth of the UK and Waterville and his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com that take all the headlines in the fly department, with 7 Grilse and four were returned and not satisfied with that, they topped that with 9 Sea Trout, which were also returned. Dominic reported that the wind was in the East, and as luck would have it they were the only ones to record a feast.
27/6/14 Mr. Martin Burn of Dublin, caught his first 1½ lbs. sea trout on the fly today, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com and may it be the first of many. Staying with the sea trout, Mr. Phil Staniforth of the UK, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a 3 lb. sea trout on the fly, which he sportingly put back to fight another day. On the weather front, flat calm for the most of the day with heavy showers.
28/6/14 Bright sunshine and flat calm conditions were the order of the day as my Noble fly Anglers waited for wind, as the iron men trolled by, grinning as they went past the redundant fly anglers, but in the end it was my Noble Game fish that had the last laugh on the day shift.
29/6/14 Straight to the backdate department, in the past week, Local ghillie Mr. Roger Baker of www.cloghvoola.com caught a fine grilse on the troll and a sea trout on the drift. Now back to today’s action. Mr. Antony Avogadri caught a fine grilse on the troll, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com Wind W light to calm and sunny.
30/6/14 Lough Currane was the quiet side on the last day of June, with one sea trout of 1 ½ lb. caught and released by Mr. Ian McMullan on the drift, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com Now we cut across to the Southside to www.lakelandshouse.com fly department, Joep from Holland caught 2 sea trout ranging in the 1 ½ lb. class, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com Wind SE fresh with reasonable cloud cover. Now to Frank’s backdate department, on Saturday 28th of June Mr. Michael Heery of Dublin while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Frank Donnelly, caught 3 sea trout, all in the 1 ½ lb. class.
1/7/14 Straight to the sea trout department, Mr. James Merrit from the UK caught a sea trout on the drift, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com Wind was light to calm and from all directions. Bright and sunny and very warm all day.
