Wicklow charter skipper Kit Dunne reports on his first trip out with a group of Cork anglers & friends fishing out of Wicklow Harbour, on the East Coast.  They came up to target the winter Spurdogs and specifically specimens, this beautiful 12.15 lb specimen fell to Dan Lynch of Halfway Angling centre, on a whole squid baited flowing trace.

Dans first Spurdog of the day took a mackerel fillet presented on a 4/0 hook

Dan with his specimen 12.5 lb. spurdog caught late in the evening.

It was only 5 minutes into the day and we had Spurdogs landed, with a racing tide conditions weren’t ideal as the day progressed, however, it didn’t stop these keen specimen hunters, they landed a total of 20 spurdogs, 3 Bullhuss and plenty of dogs. With herring still in abundance I believe we’ll have Spurs for some time yet and in much greater numbers on the offshore banks, looking forward to the next trip, Kit.

Well known specimen hunter Noel Lane with a nice Spurdog.

A nice Bullhuss came to Luke Hegarty a budding young angler.
