It was another reasonable week’s weather for anglers fishing on inland waters and at sea. The amount of angling activity has gone down a great deal with the game angling season now finished but some anglers are starting to fish on the put and take rainbow trout fisheries more.
There was a good bit of sea angling activity in the past week and EFSA Ireland announced the dates for the forthcoming popular 25th Irish Winter Shore Angling Festival which will be held on the 24th, 25th & 26th January, 2013. Down in the west coast of Clare, Bill Ryan and his friends enjoyed another week of super Cuckoo and Ballan Wrasse together with great photos. Up north it was another good week for anglers deep sea fishing off Red Bay with skipper Hamish Currie with plenty of species recorded but fresh bait can be a problem. Congratulations to the Irish Shore Angling team who took a well fought for bronze medal at the World Shore Angling Championships held in Holland. Down in Waterford it was described as an awesome fishing day with plenty of school bass showing. Over in the west the November SAC events at Grauvell and Galway are listed for anglers. On the east coast there was no big fish for Ashley but young Robert Mitchell landed a 7 lb. 6 oz. bass. The anglers at LRF described the type of fish they caught in the past week like a box of chocolates, because you never know what you’ll get!! There was a nice story for two angler’s mackerel fishing at Dun Laoghaire where a hungry seal decided to grab some of the catch. Padraic Munnelly wins Wesport Skate Festival with a fine 72.5″ skate. There was some great bass fishing reported in the Waterville area from the shore and there was some big bass for Dutch anglers fishing in the Wexford area.
There was some good action for anglers rainbow trout fishing with something for everyone on Sunday Nov 18th at Adaire Springs in Kilkenny. Blobs, Boobies, Goldheads and a variety of lures were all working well for rainbow trout in the Carton House Fishery.
There was some coarse angling news with Nick Howell and Colin Martin the overall winners of the Irish Team Qualifer series held last weekend on the River Bann at Portglenone. The Irish team had to settle for Team Silver in Castleblayney but dominated on the Podium.
On the pike angling front there was a nice 21 lb. pike taken on a lure at Green Lake at Castlehamilton, Killeshandra. It was announced that there will be an Open Pike Competition Athy on October 28th. The Catch of the Week goes to James Kirby who caught a great pike while fishing for perch with a worm on a size 10 barbless hook and 6 lb. nylon on Lough Derg
Tight lines especially in Ireland,
