Anglers in uproar after thousands of fish die from pollutant
Anglers in East Cork have expressed their anger over a major fish kill in the locality, claiming the the incident has “completely wiped out years of development”.
The Fisheries Environmental Officers at Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFA) and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) are currently conducting an investigation into the pollution incident, which led to the death of thousands of brown trout, salmon parr, brook lamprey and sticklebacks along a 5.5km stretch of the Kiltha River in Castlemartyr. The IFI believe that because the effects of the substance that entered the river were quick acting, the pollutant was of a toxic nature.
