Stephen Gibbons and Martin Byrne headed for the River Shannon last week and despite finding it very high, decided to give it a go anyway. Martin got off to a good start with a fish of 13lb on dead bait, which he shortly followed with a jack pike of about 3lb. Then there was nothing for about 2 hours until in a heavy downpour of rain seemed to stir the pike a bit and he got another run on the same rod. This resulted in a much better fish of 20lb 8oz.
Stephen was out again a day later on the boat and the fish were not responding to the dead baits at all but I did have 2 nice pike on lures to 11lb.
