Kevin Lyons reports on a party of Galway party of anglers who fished for pike on waters near Melview Lodge in Longford.
Kenneth Lowe and friend Rory Callanan from Galway decided to have a guided weekend Pike fishing trip to Longford and stay with Kevin at Melview Lodge. Kevin said the fishing was a bit slow at first however Rory had three fish to the boat before anyone else had caught a thing. I advised that a spot of dead baiting could be the answer due to the lack of interest being shown in the lures and what a good decision that turned out to be, Rory beat his personal best of 12 lb. by landing a good fish that went to the scales at 18 lb. 12 oz. followed by a nice fish of 17 lb. 4 oz for my self. And the best fish of the day fell to float fished mackerel and went to the scales at 28 lb. 1 oz and made our day, thanks lads and hope to see you again soon.
Pike fishing in and around the Longford area has been good, lots of smaller fish ranging from 5 lb. to 11 lb. have been caught however larger fish have started to show over the last few weeks. Over the last few days the weather has got colder and could impact on catches, however at the time of writing, reports from Pike anglers staying at Melview Lodge are positive with more good fish being caught. Log on next week to see how the anglers staying with Kevin get on.
