The Shannon was the venue for the Final of the 2011/12 Kingspan National Pike Championships. Fifty four anglers took part catching 288 pike to 15lbs. The one angler who couldnt make it was Mickey Doherty who is in hospital recovering from an operation. The Finalists were the top 5 anglers from each of 11 independent qualifying competitions.
Rory McAllorum of the Dublin Pike Anglers Club is the new Kingspan National Pike Champion. He fished hard covering many miles of water and ended up with a mighty catch of 12 pike for 58-03. This included 2 doubles of 13-03 and 11-11.
His fishing partner Godfrey Donohue, also of the Dublin Pike Anglers Club, came in second with 18 pike for 44-07
Derek Mohan came in third with 15 pike for 37-09.

The top 10 will represent Ireland in the International Challenge match against Great Britain which will be held on the 6th and 7th October in County Monaghan. Ibar Condron managed to come in 11th and is first reserve.
Several doubles were caught the best being 15 lbs caught by Ray Keyes.
78 attended the presentation dinner in the Carlton Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe. Guests included Ballinasloe`s Deputy Mayor Councillor Pat O`Sullivan and retired fisheries officers John Ryan and John Killilea.
