LOUGH MELVIN – Monday 14th to Sunday 20th May 2012.
The cold conditions continued this week with temperatures struggling to rise above 10°C until Sunday when temperatures rose by a few more degrees. It was once again decidedly cold for those rods who ventured out on the Lough! The trout fishing seemed to improve somewhat chatting to the few rods that ventured out. There were a number of salmon recorded for the week all as the salmon fishing picked up. Tuesday was a good day when the salmon just seemed to ‘switch on’. Raymond Dundaff recorded a 9lb salmon caught trolling at Garrison. Robbie Hare accounted for another salmon of 9lb caught trolling and Niall Sweeney had a good day recording 3 fine salmon caught trolling. The fish weighed 8, 11 & 14lb.
On Wednesday Noel Johnston accounted for another salmon of 8½lb caught trolling. On Sunday, in the Rossinver Fishery, Melvin Schofield logged a 7lb 4oz salmon caught trolling from Harte’s Point and Rodney Benson had a good day recording 2 salmon caught trolling between the County River & Ward’s Point. The fish weighed 9lb 6oz & 4lb 8oz and were sportingly released again.
