Lindsey Clarke reports:

Monday 20th to Sunday 26th August 2012

The week was fairly wet with good rainfall at times. This gave some nice water levels in the river over the week though the river had dropped again by Sunday. The gauge average for the week was good reading 0.24 metres. The fishery was fairly busy with 64 visiting rods fishing for the week, mostly over Friday, Saturday & Sunday. There were some 25 salmon caught over the week. This was somewhat disappointing given the conditions and rod attendance. The grilse run this season to date has been poor and many fisheries are seeing the same poor grilse run for the month.

Given here is a selection of the catches. On Monday, Finn McCrory recorded a 3lb grilse caught from beat 8 on a fly. On Tuesday, Finn logged a 3¼lb grilse caught from beat 8 on a fly. On Wednesday Finn registered a 4lb grilse caught from beat 7 on a fly. On Thursday, Finn recorded 2 salmon of 4 & 9lb caught on a fly from beat 8 with the larger of these being returned. Mick Kolbohm logged a 3¾lb grilse caught from beat 5 on a fly. Michael McCrory registered 4lb grilse caught from beat 7 on a fly. Dietrich Bonhorst accounted for a 7lb salmon caught on a fly from beat 8. Frankie Campbell recorded a 4lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 9 and Bill O’Regan accounted for 2 grilse of 3 & 4lb caught on a fly from beat 8. On Friday, Hugh Frazer recorded a 6lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 4. Frankie Campbell logged 2 grilse caught on a fly from beat 9 weighing 2 & 3lb. Bill Murray registered 3 grilse caught on a fly from beat 5. These weighed 3, 3 & 4lb and he also lost a further two big fish. On Saturday, Alan Watson recorded a 3½lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 8.
