Chris Maguire reports that he caught and released a salmon on the Boyne at Slane on a purple shrimp. A passer by who was out for a walk landed the fish which Chris estimates was around 15 pounds. The salmon took the shrimp as Chris was holding the shrimp on the float over the fish when on the 6th cast he ran up stream there was no stoping him. Luckily Chris had braid on and the fight lasted 10 minutes. Chris has been a member of the Rossin and Slane club since he was 12 he is 27 now. Chris reports also that the river fished great for sea trout all season and even with the high water he landed about 30 /40 sea trout all on trotted white maggots. The best fish was 3 1/2 pound and it was released carefully back to the river as it was over-sized. All salmon were also released. The day before Chris caught the big salmon he had 2 grilse of 4 and 7 pound which also released by to the waters of the Boyne.
