Ghillie Vincent Appleby reports on the salmon and sea trout fishing in the past week on Lough Currane from his blog at http://wwwsalmonandseatroutphotos.blogspot.com/

10/7/12 There were a few sea trout caught and catch of the day goes to a French angler fishing with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and of www.oshealoughcurrane.com who caught 3 sea trout up to 2 lb. and all returned, there were a few boats out manipulating their flies and failed miserably in procuring my Noble game fish or they failed in reporting their catches. Wind NW fresh and overcast and cold.

11/7/12 The wind may have been in the north but at least my noble Anglers saw some reasonable action, in the salmon department Mr. Andy Wishart of Co. Down got a cracker of a salmon of 8 lb. on the troll, and in the drifting department, renowned ghillie Mr. Bob Priestley caught a 5 lb. Grilse, now to the sea trout fly department Mr. C Barkley, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught 2 sea trout on the drift, Mr. Mark Knowles of the UK, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy and of www.fishingwithdom.com caught 2 juniors, and in the past few days Mark has also caught a 6 lb. specimen sea trout a 5 lb. sea trout and a few in the 2 to 3 lb. class and were all returned. Staying with the sea trout, Mr. Tom Hellson of the UK and his brother-in-law, fishing with their ghillie Mr. Vincent Appleby and of www.salmonandseatrout.com caught 3 sea trout and a fine brown trout on the troll, and lost a fine salmon. Also in good form was Mr. Patsy Quilligan of Cork, caught a fine basket of sea trout on the troll. Wind N then veered NE light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover.

12/7/12 Mr. Mark Knowles of the UK fishing with his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy and of www.fishinhwithdom.com was in good with his fly rod, he caught a fine grilse of 5 lb. and caught a two sea trout ranging from 1 lb. up to 3 lb., Mr. Tim O’Mahony of Cork and his young son Antony caught 2 juniors and Tim was also telling me while sea fishing he caught 6 fine Bass yesterday, now we head upstream too the Upper Lakes and Lough Namona, Mr. C Berkley fishing with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a 2.5 lb. sea trout, now we cut across the valley too the River Inny and catch of the day, local ghillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer caught a 15 lb. salmon on the spin and I can tell you his clients Mr. PJ Lynham and his son Mr Colin Lynham of Dublin, were delighted as they watched their ghillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer, tackle my noble salmon and it wasn’t long before my noble salmon was on the bank for all to see. Wind S then Veered SW fresh and over cast with light misty rain and just for the record it made another flood early this morning.

13/7/12 straight too the sea trout department, Mr. C Berkley, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Tom O’Shea and of [email protected] caught one Junior, Mr Mark Knowles of the UK fishing with his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy and of www.fishingwithdom.com also caught on sea trout, and renowned Cork angler Patsy Quilligan caught a fine 4 lb. sea trout which he sportingly put back and not satisfied with his days fishing on Lough Currane, he headed down stream too the famous Butler Pool and of www.watervillegolflinks.ie and caught himself a 9 lb. salmon, now we head back up stream too the Lake, there were a few Trout caught on the troll.

14/7/12 Straight too the sea trout department, Mr. Malcolm Sergeant of the UK fishing with his ghillie Mr. Tom O’Shea and of [email protected] caught 3 juniors, also in good form was Mr. Patsy Quilligan of Cork with two Juniors, now for catch and release of the day and that goes to Mr. Kevin O’Sullivan who caught a fine 5 lb. sea trout on the fly within 20 minutes of going out this evening, anglers are saying its hard out there too catch my noble sea trout, I think Kevin would beg to differ and just for the record yes its hard out there in the fly department but there quite a few sea trout being caught on the troll even though they haven’t bean reported. Wind N and overcast.

15/7/12 There were just a few juniors caught, but I must emphasize There were a few boats out manipulating their flies, and if they didn’t fail in catching my noble game fish they certainly did by not reporting their catches, so on that note we will head down stream too the famous Butler Pool and of www.watervillegolflinks.ie Mr. Noel Clancy of Dublin fishing with his ghillie Mr. Sion Brain and of www.kbfishingireland.com caught a lightening fresh 8 lb. salmon. Wind SW light with rain this morning and overcast this afternoon.

16/7/12 Made another big flood early this morning and the mouth of the Commeragh was very dirty so as you can imagine the best fly fishing stations were at a stand still for most of the day, but this didn’t stop my noble anglers from procuring my noble game fish, first in the salmon department, Mr. Diarmuld Devereux of Wexford, caught a fine fresh grilse on the troll, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Tom O’Shea and of [email protected]

Wind SW light and overcast and veered NW this evening. That is your ration for this week, from your Ghillie/Guide and the Waterville fishery. No Spin No Fly’s just facts.
