Patrick Devennie head ghillie with the Careysville Fishery on the Munster Blackwater River gives his monthly report for June
(reprinted in the Trout and Salmon magazine under Irish angling reports)
With continuing high water due to relentless spells of heavy rain throughout June and early July, salmon have been running constantly all summer so far.
As and when a short weather window appears and conditions settle temporarily, fish are being caught at Careysville.
June’s catch was up on last year and also above our 5 year average, with some great fish being landed.
We had our second biggest fish of the season, 18 lb. caught by Irish angler, Fergal Molloy.
We no lengthy settled spell forecast yet and more heavy rain this week, this unseasonal pattern of wet weather seems set to continue.
However despite these difficult conditions, with just a few days break from rain, the fishing is reasonably albeit slightly restricted in where and how.
