Hannah Berney, finalist on BBC’s The Voice UK, was on a holiday last week with her boyfriend in Ireland. One of the highlights of the trip was a night fishing adventure with her Grandfather, Brian Berney. Brian took the couple out to one of his favourite marks in Tinneberna near the Killmuckridge beaches.

Stars shine brightest at night and this star outshone both tutor and boyfriend. Hannah, showing that she had more strings to her bow than singing, proved a dab hand at angling and caught a fine sea bass.
Granddad, Brian, was delighted for Hannah’s bass but was disappointed not to have shown off his own skills to better effect. However, Hannah attributed the catch to the expert tuition she received from her Grandfather.
There’s a long history of women out-performing men in angling stakes and when it was suggested that “girl power” might have something to do with her catch Hannah replied “The Spice Girls taught me all I know about that… ha!”.
We asked Hannah to “drop us a line” the next time she is fishing in Ireland. She told us, “What a terrible, terrible fishing joke – but you’re right I will – you’ve got me hooked… “.
