Kilmuckridge Sea Angling Club held their Open Competition on Saturday 4th Feb 2012. The event was fished on Ballinoulart beach from 5pm to 9pm and all baits were allowed. Check in was at Sean Ogs Hotel in Kilmuckridge from 2-30pm to 4pm where a total of 50 anglers checked in to fish the event. The lineup included 48 seniors and 2 juniors. A hard fought competition saw Lar O’Connor from Wexford running out as overall winner of the event.
Conditions were changeable on the evening as rain cleared after a wet start and the light southerly breeze dropped off completely. Fishing covered the last half hour before high water with the rest of the event being fished on the falling tide. A competitive Zone 2 saw Lar O’Connor from Wexford take top spot with 22 fish, 2nd place went to Jack Keegan from Ballybrack with 17 fish and 3rd place went to Daithi Doran also with 17 fish. 4th in the zone went to Harry McKey junior from East Antrim with 15 fish.

Assorted baits worked on the day with maddies, wraps and lug all taking fish at varying distances but the majority not too far out. The main species recorded on the evening included flounder, rockling, codling, whiting and coalies.
