Galway man hooks trophy, local woman claims crown
GALWAY angler Eugene McCarthy won this year’s World Trout Angling Championship on Lough Mask. McCarthy fought off stiff competition from national and European competitors to hook first prize – a 19-foot Anglers’ Fancy boat, a 15-horse-power Honda 4 Stroke engine, a Marksman Fly Rod, a watch and the prestigious World Trout Angling trophy.
It is estimated that 470 Irish and international anglers competed in the championship, which took place over five days – Thursday, August 1 to Monday, August 5 – on the shores of Lough Mask at Cushlough Bay, Ballinrobe….
