Concerns have been raised about the risk of flooding along land close to the River Slate, which passes through West Kildare.
Kildare County Council has been asked to fund a cleaning programme.
And Cllr. Brendan Weld believes that an emergency programme of works must take place “as a matter of urgency” to prevent the flooding that occurs, particularly after heavy rainfall.
He told a KCC area meeting that work was done on the waterway 7-8 years ago but “now it is silting up again.”
He said continuous maintenance of the river may be necessary into the future…….
