Junior angler Tommy Monaghan took an evening to go pike fishing with Alan Houlihan of Fly Fishing Ireland this week on Inniscarra. Tommy, accompanied by Decky Collins, fished plugs while Alan fished the fly. Between them they landed 10 pike, with many exciting rushes and follows that amounted to nothing and a number of lost fish too.
Tommy had all his pike on plugs and Alan managed 4 on the fly. Amongst the 10 fish landed were three double figure fish of 16lb 16.5lb and 14lb. Tommy was over the moon with his experience and is firmly hooked on Inniscarra as a pike venue.
Earlier in the week FFI guides Alan and Mark Houlihan had some really excellent fishing. The pair found that spawning has finished on many parts of the lake and pike are back on the feed. Pike are crashing shoals of baitfish with surface flies providing some devastating results.
