Frank Maunsell of the Owenmore Fishery in Co. Kerry reports on a huge run of small sea trout with some better fish caught in the dead of night…

We had a small flood at the weekend but it only lasted for a day. There was an unbelievable run of small sea trout up to 1 lb . There were two lads fishing on the river and they were getting them two at a time. There was a competition between them to see who would get the three on.

A young lad from Cork fishing the lower pools on Saturday night and he had 31 trout. They were small, roughly quarter to half a pound but he will certainly be hooked on fishing after this.

Even though the water levels are low we had 11 juniors on the lake yesterday the biggest being over 1 lb. On Sunday night we had 3 trout between 2 and 3 lbs caught at 3.a.m.
