Andrew Ryan, APGAI Clonanav Fly Fishing reports:

Dod Fraser from the US has been out with me the past few days. His goal was to learn to spey cast and hopefully land his first atlantic salmon.  Today his dream came true, he cast really well after learning to cast the double hander yesterday and today on his 4th cast hooked into a salmon over  17lbs!  The fish fought hard and took a size 15 holographic cascade.  Dod is a Frontiers client and is on his first trip to Ireland.

With the low water this year the fish have been in the system quite a few weeks and are redder than usual, but it is an amazing feat to hook so a large fish in the Blackwater.

Paul Whelan confirmed that this was the largest fish from the Fortwilliam beats this year.  Dod has a few more days left fishing for trout, more photos to follow.
