Paul Whelan Fort William Estate reports on some super fish caught and released on the Munster Blackwater:

23/09/2013: Water levels are still at an all time low but we are still managing to catch fish on a daily basis. After the small rise in water levels not to many fresh fish entered the system. Anglers are still having some sport but too they are having to work hard. Dod Fraser from the U.S guided by Andrew Ryan ( Clonanav flyfishing) landed a cracking fish of 17lbs on fly off the Glenmore beat which was returned safely. Dod has the heavist fish for Fort William this season so far. Brian Hennessey landed another cracking fish of 16lbs also on fly off the Bishops beat which too was returned safely. Cregg Bale landed 2 fish on fly off the Casle of 8lbs& 5lbs all returned safely. John Brock from the U.K landed a nice clean fish of 12lbs off the Glenmore on spinner.
Will Hinds and his family had a good days fishing on the Castle beat landing 4 fish for the day and releasing one of 5lbs.

Go fishing…

Flowing through Cork and Waterford, in the southeast of Ireland, the river Blackwater is most famous for it’s salmon fishing. Fort William Fishery has 5 beats on the river, which include stretches particularly suited to flyfishing. Our beats offer a wide variety of water, suitable for both beginners and the more experienced fishermen. In summer we have also good numbers of sea trout. On the estate there are three self-catering cottages and tackle/freezer room. Whether you like fishing for salmon or fly fishing for sea trout, Fort William will meet all your game angling requirements and much more. We also offer Free U16 fishing when accompanied by a paying adult.
