Billy Downes,  secretary of the  Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers Associationreports:

Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers’ Association waters and Beat 3.

As of Monday 16th September Laune now back up to 6 inches on the gauge at Johnston’s after a 3 inch rise over night.  This slight rise is unlikely to make a difference in the fishing but there is a little rain forecast for Tuesday/Wednesday.

I have to say that the week gone by has been a surprise, despite the extremely low water a few fish are being caught each day by all methods.

Bernard Lyot had a fish of 6lbs, Patrick Richard having been very disappointed with his fish for 2013 to date has had a good run of luck with fish of 6 lbs, 8.5 lbs respectively on Tuesday and Wednesday at Johnston’s and the Rock Pool. Peter Muller had a grilse of 4 lbs fishing at Johnston’s on Thursday.  On Friday Heidi Weickum one of our members visiting from Germany got a pull from a fish spinning and later on Friday she lost a fish at Gorry on the fly.

Again this week a few fish were seen running the river and there are resident fish there but the most usual story is ‘they won’t touch anything’

Permits for Laune Anglers during August and September will only cost €35 per day.

Beat 3:

Water on Beat 3 is now very low and prospects there require a two foot rise of water from the County Bounds.  Trout fishing on the Beat could be very good.

Prospects: We need rain for any good fishing prospects but there is still some chance if you get out.

Anglers please note: A ‘One Day’ salmon permit for Beat 3 only costs €25 probably the best value in salmon fishing in the country with a good chance of a fish when the water is right.
