Billy Downes of the Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers Association reports on the weekend’s fishing…
Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers’ Association waters and Beat 3.
As of Monday 9th September Laune now at 6 inches on the gauge at Johnston’s and in need of water. Looking at the weather forecast there is no comfort there for the foreseeable future.
Again this week it was a bit of a struggle for most anglers to meet fish on any method, that said there are a few fish being caught each day. Among the lucky fly anglers were Jean Francois Le Meur a visitor from France who lost a fish on Sunday and got a nice sea liced fish of 8 lbs at Johnston’s on Monday. Michel Bernard one of our French members had the first fish of his September visit on Wednesday again at Johnston’s. Dan Shine had his first Laune salmon of 2013 on Thursday evening at the Rock Pool. Billy Downes had a nice fresh fish of 6.5 lbs at Broderick’s on Sunday evening.
Again this week fish were seen running the river but once in the river they are playing hide and seek with the anglers and they are winning the game.
Permits for Laune Anglers during August and September will only cost €35 per day.
Beat 3:
Water on Beat 3 is now very low and prospects there require a two foot rise of water from the County Bounds. Trout fishing on the Beat could be very good.
Prospects: We need rain for any good fishing prospects but there is still some chance if you get out.
Anglers please note: A ‘One Day’ salmon permit for Beat 3 only costs €25 probably the best value in salmon fishing in the country with a good chance of a fish when the water is right.
