The first salmon of 2013 from the Galway Fishery was landed today by local angler Eoin Trill, from the Claddagh in Galway City.

After weeks of high water, levels finally dropped enough over the last week to allow fishing, and Eoin was the first successful angler this year. His fish, a sparkling silver fresh-run spring fish weighed 4.5lbs, and was so fresh it had a large number of sea lice still aboard. The fish was taken on a float-fished shrimp in the top pool.

Well done to Eoin!

With levels at 4 open sluice gates now, conditions are good for spring fishing, and anglers will be encouraged to see the first fish caught. Fingers are crossed for a good spring run this year, and hopefully we will have more Galway salmon to report on shortly.
