LAUNE SALMON AND TROUT ANGLERS’ ASSOCIATION WATERS AND BEAT 3

by BILLY DOWNES

Angling Report 20th May

Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers’ Association waters and Beat 3.

As of Monday 20th May water now at 2 feet 9 inches on the gauge at Johnston’s.  Beautiful water for all methods.  There were a few fish caught during the week but fish were hard to catch over the weekend.  A French permit holder had the best fish of the week a 12 pound fish on the fly fishing at Johnston’s on Tuesday. Martin Hurley from Tralee had his first fish of the year also at Johnston’s a sea liced 8 pounder on Wednesday.

Martin Hurley 8 lb. salmon at Johnston's on the River Laune

With the draft nets now operating the chances of a fish for anglers will be diminished but we live in hope that the run will allow a few to escape to be caught on rod and line.

Permits for Laune Anglers up to the end of July cost only €25 per day.

Beat 3:

Water on Beat 3 is lovely at the moment and should remain so for a few days.  There were two fish reported from the beat for the week.

Prospects: There was a slight pick-up this week compared to last week and with perfect water and weather conditions conducive to fishing I would expect that prospects are good for the week ahead.

Anglers please note: A ‘One Day’ salmon permit for Beat 3 only costs €25 probably the best value in salmon fishing in the country with a good chance of a fish.
