Lindsey Clarke reports on Last week’s cathces, the current conditions and prospects for the week at the Owenea…
The Owenea River received a big flood on Monday (0.49 metres) and had lovely water levels on Tuesday (0.31 metres). As the rest of the week progressed, water levels dropped with the gauge only reading 0.1 metres on Sunday. The gauge average for the week read 0.21 metres. The fishery was a little busier with 17 visiting rods fishing although the vast majority of these fished on Friday & Saturday when the river was low. I have heard of 2 salmon caught so far to date. On Monday, Charles Campbell recorded a 6lb grilse caught on a spinner from beat 3 and on Sunday, Alan Watson registered a lovely fresh 12½lb salmon caught in low water on a fly from beat 8.
The forecast for the coming week is for mainly dry and warm weather with just the odd shower and it seems there is little probability of a nice flood. We will see.
