Shane Gallagher reports from the River Drowes:

04/06/2013: Today was the warmest day of the year so far with temperatures reaching 20 degrees Celsius. Today also saw the highest water temperature of the year at 13.1 Celsius. The water level has dropped back to 0.53 metres, the first dip below 0.55 on the gauge in over a month. Yesterday and today were the first days that felt like summer this season. It was unusual to see Hawthorn fly and Mayfly together in the same hatch yesterday in Lareen Bay, but that’s just been the type of year we’ve had.

Fishing has been steady if unspectacular over the past week. There were multiple fish reported every day except Wednesday, with 1 fish and Thursday which drew a blank in bright sunshine. There are decent numbers of grilse running but they are proving hard to tempt. Spinner and worm have accounted for most of the fish this week, with only three each on fly and prawn for the week. The warm, dry weather is forecast to continue for much of the week, with only light, localised showers predicted. The water level is now dropping quite quickly and should be under 0.5 metres by the weekend if not earlier. The tides start building again ahead of the new moon on Saturday.
