Vincent Appleby from Eureka Lodge reports that it was a busy weekend on Lough Currane with plenty of sea trout including some specimens landed. A number of salmon were also encountered and the first grilse of the season was caught earlier this week…

15 May: All the head lines come from the Bungalow, on the North side of the Lake, first in the striking zone was Mr. Michael Shultz of Berlin Germany, who caught a fine 9 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com also in great form in the fly department was Mr. Sean Smith of the UK, he caught a cracker of a Salmon on the fly weighing in at 10.5 lb. even before his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea ofwww.oshealoughcurrane.com got on the oars to manipulate the boat, in full view of his fellow fly Anglers, the salmon jumped about six times, and Sean’s reel was echoing across the water, and it wasn’t long before Sean’s ghillie netted the fish, and there was one hell of a grin of satisfaction on their faces and as especially as it was their last cast of the day. Now to the Sea Trout department, The Sinclair Party from Northern Ireland, fishing in a hired out boat fromwww.lakelandshouse.com caught two fine sea trout weighing 4 lb. and a wonderful specimen of 7 lb. both caught on the fly. Wind NNE light and very cold this morning with heavy showers at times.

16 May: The Chairman of the Waterville Fisheries development group Mr. Michael Roden, was the toast of Lough Currane today, and for good reason, because he caught a fine 8 lbs. Salmon on the troll, as always Michael was fishing with his ghillie Mr. Junior Scully. Wind N light, with good cloud cover with heavy showers at times. In the Sea trout department, the Sinclair party from Northern Ireland, fishing in a hired out boat fromwww.lakelandshouse.com caught a 1.5 lb. sea trout on the fly

17 May: Anglers always have good excuses’ and today is no exception and for good reason, the wind was in the northeast with cold showers, and my Noble Gentlemen the salmon were in a lethargic mood, as were my Noble Anglers, and the truth of the pudding is in the eating of, i.e. no fish.

18 May: It was a day for the Sea Trout and fly department. First in the Striking zone was Mr. Michael Smith of the UK, who caught a fine 3.5lbs Sea Trout, and his son Sean, finished their day off with a fine 5.5 lbs Sea Trout, while fishing with their Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea ofwww.oshealoughcurrane.com and just for the record both Sea Trout were returned to fight another day, and staying with the Sea trout, Mr. Liam Ellis of Waterville, caught a Sea Trout of 5.5 lbs on the fly, and last but not least a guest, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a 4.5 lbs on the fly out at the Church. Wind North and fresh and overcast.

Marcel Guillou with a 2.740 kg specimen Sea Trout caught on the fly

20 May: All the head lines go to Mr. Marcel Guillou of the UK, and for good reason he caught a 2.740 kg specimen Sea Trout on the fly, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan ofwww.vincentsfishing.com and for the rest of the fly fishing community there was no comment on their catches, I wonder why? I will  tell you why, they failed miserably in their duties in all departments. Wind NNE light with good cloud cover.

21 May: There was some good action in Edery Bay this morning, first in the striking zone was Mr. Quin Turner of Waterville Vermont, USA, who caught a fine Brown Trout on the troll, then his younger Brother Donovan got in on the act with his first ever Lough Currane Brown Trout which he sportingly put back, and while they had all the action, their Dad, Mr. Damian Turner, was catching all the action on camera, and their  Gillie was my good self ofwww.salmonandseatrout.com staying in Edery Bay, local Gillie Mr. Bob Priestley, caught and released a fine Sea Trout in the 3 to 4 lbs. class which was all caught on video, hope you enjoy. In the Salmon department, Mr. Markus Kruse of Germany, fishing out of www.lakelandshouse.com caught the first Grilse of the 2013 season, and now for quote of the day from Markus, you can’t beat a good Gillie and team work. Wind NW light to fresh with bright sunshine all day.

22 May: My noble game fish were in a lethargic mood as were my Noble Anglers, so I will go straight to quote of the day, in the words of Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com Wind North and bright and hopeless, need I  pontificate further? I think not.

That is your ration for this week, from your Gillie/Guide and the Waterville fishery.
