An update from the Slaney River Trust :
The sea trout run has still not materialised to any great extent and members are starting to worry they may not just simply be delayed by the cold spring. The low water means that salmon fishing is a virtual standstill except for the Enniscorthy bridge area. The seals are active in several areas as fish wait for fresh water and a chance run upstream.
The very low water conditions combined with the heat wave leaves the river very exposed to serious a fish kill if there are any pollution incidents. If you see anything of concern please contact Ken Dodd from the SRT Environmental Committee on 086 2575088 and notify the IFI pollution hotline on 0818 34 74 24
The IFI sponsored casting class took place at Clohamon on the 29th of June. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was had by all with great instruction and tips from Jason O’Riordan and Myles Kelly. See here for a report and photographs .
IFI’s Dr Willie Roche treated members at the recent AGM to a presentation on the Celtic Sea Trout Programme. Bullet points on some of the matters covered are included here but we will have to wait until the autumn for the full presentation of results.
