We knew Wicklow was fishing well but never imagined it could be better, how wrong were we. In the last 2 weeks major milestones have been broken for Wicklow Boat Charters Skipper of the LISIN, Kit Dunne, he reports on the recent results…

With numerous Specimen Smooth-Hounds and a few Tope recorded lately we set out to try for a new Species with a very keen, able and willing group from overseas. After a couple of hours steaming and 20 minutes trying for mackerel we set our anchor. Dog after dog were caught until Peter our German guest hooked into something large. It took a little time to bring him up from 50M but at last we netted a clear specimen Bullhuss. Weighing in at 17.4lb this was our first on LISIN.

On a recent trip to 2 relatively closer marks we found 21 Tope, 8 Ray, 10 Huss, 12 Gurnards and a few Hounds, a day record for LISIN. On to the Spurdogs but they weren’t to be found, instead we found a few Huss and many Tope. 15 Tope above a Metre long and averaging 30lb were caught and released. Many fish were near Specimen with a few at 1540mm and 1560mm long and one weighing in at 37lb. Nevertheless a superb days fishing was had.

Back to the Hounds and an experienced group of specimen hunters lead by John Millerick made a few big results recently. Liam Millerick bagged his 10th specimen badge with his fine fish of 10lb 4oz and 10lb 12oz.

Des of Southside Angling got his first, second and third Specimen Smooth Hound and will receive his 10th Species badge at the awards this year. Also we had our first overseas anglers with Specimen Smooth-Hounds, thanks to my Euro crew 🙂
