Richie Ryan had another double hook up this year, with two Kilkenny anglers this time. The guide’s main fear was that the two bass would get tangled together but the Kilkenny lads were well up to the task. Having travelled all the way from Kilkenny the guide was keen that they would catch a bass each.

To start the day Mick Purcell and Dennis Foley tried their hand at fly fishing for pollack and caught plenty of fish and then switched to the bass on lures. It was Mick’s first ever bass and Richie has now breached the 100 mark for anglers catching their first elusive bar of silver. All bass were returned.

In addition the Eire Bass guide had an expert saltwater  fly angler out during the week who was keen to fish deep water in Cork Harbour for pollack on the fly. South African Con Jooste, a returning customer, had close on 30 pollack in water ranging from 30-40 feet deep in the harbour on flies tied by his nephew.

The guide said it was a pleasure to see such an excellent caster at work even though a long cast is not a requirement in such deep water.

As the salmon season comes to a close soon it is worth mentioning that October can be an excellent month for bass fishing so if you want to book …
