Michael McVeigh, skipper of the Rosguill out of Downings reports:

Entering the middle of the season now and fishing remains mixed, inconsistent, mediocre, patchy.

For sure, 2013 is different than previous years and it cannot be helped but wonder has the “legacy” of the Red Tide been the loss by death of a portion of fish stocks.

Coalfish are abundant in terms of grounds, quantity and size – the Rosguill had to leave a wreck after just 2 drifts due to the amount of Coalfish.

The main Turbot mark has had ZERO Turbot so far this season.

The limeburner grounds are short in stocks, although there are some fish there – just not too many.

Reef Pollack are present – but not in great numbers

On a more positive slant – there are fish there – they just need to be coaxed more!!!
