Guide Sid Jones from Wexford was on a recent guided trip with Terry O Donovan and Gearóid Mc Carthy from West Cork and District SAC. They were on the hunt for Smooth hounds so Sid organised a 2 day trip for the lads.
Sid reports: Terry, Gearóid, Rebecca Keohane and my Son Dan all had a wonderful day Shore fishing on the 11th and boat fishing on the 12th. There were some first time Dabs, some catches of Whiting, the ever present Dog fish, Gurnard, Flounder and what they wanted ….Smooth Hounds.
Rebecca Keohane landed her first ever Smooth hound from the shore while Dan landed a few with one pulling his rod clean off the stand. I had a few nice ones myself and the two lads from Cork had a great nights fishing with multiple catches of all species mentioned along with their sought after Smooth hounds.
For Stage two of the trip we boarded the boat and carried on catching hound after hound with Brian Taite catching the biggest Smoothie of the day just shy of 6lbs, along with Gurnard, Doggies, Dabs, a few nice Thornback Ray for the lucky anglers with one weighing 14.5 lbs, a Homlyn Ray for myself along with a hand full of hounds everybody caught their fair share or fish and had a great day with over 50 Smooth hounds caught and well over 200 fish caught and released on the day.
I would like to thank Paul Coady, East Cork Bait Supplies for organising the peeler crab and assortment of baits for our trip… Excellent service and well worth a visit.. The best around by far…
