Robert Moloney reports that The Commercial Club in Galway held their Springtime Fishing Wet Fly Competition last Sunday and although the Arctic conditions reduced the numbers competing, the hardy souls that braved the cold had very good fishing.
A total of 15 boats and 30 Anglers had 41 trout for approx 78 lbs, best fish was a 7 lb + fish. This is excellent fishing for the extremely cold and unfavourable conditions, especially considering many anglers – due to the cold – did not fish anywhere near what could be called a full day.

On 21 March Donal Connolly of Nonaim Lodge took this great photo that shos just how wild and windy it was last week. At the time the lake was beset by a cold, cold, easterly gale. Not deterred Donal tells us “the duckfly is just upon us and am looking forward to it!”
Early Buzzer feeder
Mary Millar of Lough Corrib Fly Fishing reports that before the weather turned foul last week guests staying at The Fishing Lodge must have been some of the first anglers visiting the Corrib to take fish on the buzzer.
Best fish of the week was 4lb 2oz caught by Mags Curtis from Peterborough. Frank Stappenback from Germany caught his first ever trout also on the buzzer.
